The Newsboys have sold eight million CDs, won multiple Dove awards, been nominated for four Grammys, and had 33 number one songs.  Now they’re trying their hand at politics. The award-winning Christian group will appear at the Rally for Religious Liberty on August 21 in Des Moines – an event sponsored by U.S. Senator Ted Cruz, who is seeking the Republican presidential nomination. “Our campaign couldn’t be more excited for the Newsboys to perform at this rally,” Sen. Cruz said. “We are looking forward to working with them and all participants in this event to shine a light on the ongoing assault on religious liberty in this country.” The Rally for Religious Liberty will be held at the Iowa events Center Grand Ballroom at 730 3rd Street in Des Moines, beginning at 5:30 p.m. local time on August 21. The event will highlight American victims of politically correct religious discrimination. Dick and Betty Odgaard of Grimes, Iowa are hosts of the rally. They were forced to close their business after refusing to allow it to be used as a venue for same-sex “wedding” ceremonies. a They will be joined by six others who have likewise been targeted by the government for their religious beliefs:

  • Kelvin Cochran of Atlanta, Georgia – the African-American fire chief of Atlanta and former Obama administration appointee who lost his job for publishing an evangelical book saying that homosexuality is a violation of Biblical morality;
  • Barronelle Stutzman of Richland, Washington – the florist fined by the state for refusing to provide flowers to a longtime homosexual customer for a “wedding” ceremony;
  • Aaron and Melissa Kline of Gresham Oregon – the proprietors of Sweet Cakes by Melissa, sued and slapped with a gag order for refusing to bake a cake for a homosexual “marriage”;
  • U.S. Air Force Senior Master Sergeant Phillip Monk – a 19-year military veteran who says he was dismissed because he teaches that homosexuality is a sin; and
  • Blaine Adamson of Lexington, Kentucky – who refused to make t-shirts promoting a gay “pride” event.
